Key metrics
What you get
1 free hostname on ~30 No-IP-owned domains (e.g. ddns.net) with no credit card required
Dynamic Update Client (DUC) for Windows, Mac and Linux keeps the hostname pointed at your current IP
Backed by No-IP's Anycast DNS network with rapid propagation and an uptime guarantee
Built into many routers, cameras and NAS devices as a native DDNS provider
Gotchas
- 1 hostname only
Free accounts are limited to a single DDNS hostname with 1 update client; 3+ hostnames now require the paid Enhanced plan ($2.99/mo and up).
- 30-day confirmation required
Free hostnames must be confirmed every 30 days via an emailed link (sent 7 days before and on the expiry date) or the hostname is deleted. After day 23 it enters a confirmation window.
- Ads on redirects
The free tier shows ads on web/port-80 HTTP redirects; ad-free service requires a paid plan.
- Basic DNS records only
Free accounts get only basic DNS records and no SSL certificate; advanced records, SSL, and email upgrades require a paid plan.
- No custom domain
Free hostnames must use one of about 30 No-IP-owned domains (e.g. ddns.net, no-ip.org); using your own domain requires Pro Dynamic DNS or Plus Managed DNS.
- Functional limits for non-basic use
No-IP states free and Enhanced hostnames are intended for basic remote access and have limitations when used for other purposes (e.g. hosting public-facing production services).
