Gotchas
- JavaScript ecosystem content only
Sites must be directly related to the JavaScript ecosystem/community (e.g. NPM packages / JS tools). Personal pages and portfolios are explicitly not accepted, and placeholder or unrelated content is rejected.
- Requires a CNAME-capable host
You must point a CNAME at a host that supports custom domains. GitHub Pages works, but so do other providers (Netlify, Vercel, etc.) — js.org maintains a 3rd-party-hosts wiki. GitHub Pages is not required.
- PR approval required
Registration is not self-serve — you must open a pull request to the js-org/js.org repository and wait for a maintainer to review and merge it, which can take 24+ hours.
- Subdomain only — no apex domain
You receive a third-level subdomain (yourname.js.org) only; there is no option for a custom TLD or apex domain.
- DNS limited to CNAME
The service only supports a CNAME record pointing to any host that accepts custom domains; no A records, MX, TXT, or other DNS record types are configurable.
- Non-commercial / open-source intent
The service is positioned for open-source JS community projects; purely commercial products are unlikely to pass PR review.
