Schedulers 8.0/10 Jun 16, 2026

Serverless scheduler for one-time and recurring invocations across AWS services and API targets.

Card required
Yes

AWS EventBridge Scheduler scores 8/10 for free value in Schedulers. The main constraint: AWS account and current pricing/free-tier terms apply; verify before depending on cost assumptions.

Category Schedulers Kind Managed cloud scheduler Caveats Best inside AWS. IAM, target permissions, and account setup are more involved than simple HTTP schedulers. Renewal monthly Card required Yes Eligibility anyone

Flexible delivery windows and retries

Gotchas

  • 14M invocations/month free

The free tier includes 14,000,000 Scheduler invocations per month, calculated across all regions (except GovCloud) and applied automatically.

  • Unused free quota does not roll over

Any unused portion of the 14M monthly free invocations expires at month end and is not carried forward.

  • AWS account required (card on file)

An AWS account with a valid payment method is required even to use the free tier; no usage is billed until you exceed free limits.

  • AWS ecosystem only

EventBridge Scheduler can only target AWS services and supported API destinations; it cannot natively trigger arbitrary external HTTP endpoints without additional wiring (API destinations).

  • No GovCloud free tier

The 14M monthly free invocations are not available in the AWS GovCloud region.

  • IAM and target permissions required

Every schedule requires IAM roles and correctly scoped permissions on both the scheduler and the target resource, adding significant setup overhead versus simpler schedulers.

  • API throttling per account/region

Scheduler API calls (CreateSchedule, etc.) are subject to AWS service quotas and throttling limits per account per region, which can affect automation pipelines creating large numbers of schedules.

  • Flexible delivery windows trade precision for cost

Scheduler's flexible time windows allow AWS to batch invocations within a user-defined window, which can delay execution by up to the window size.
